How many public holidays are observed in Kosovo?

Kosovo’s public holiday law sets out 11 named public holidays, but the number of non-working dates in a given year can be higher. That happens because New Year is observed over two dates, Easter holidays are taken on Monday, and weekend holidays move to the next working day.

For 2026, the official schedule shows 12 non-working dates. For 2027 and 2028, the total can shift again depending on how weekend substitutions and the final lunar-calendar dates for Eid are confirmed.

The most popular holidays in Kosovo

A few dates matter more than others for everyday planning. New Year is the longest fixed holiday at the start of the year, Independence Day on 17 February is one of the main national dates, and Labour Day on 1 May often affects public services and business hours. Christmas and Easter matter too, with separate Catholic and Orthodox dates reflected in the calendar. Kosovo also treats Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as public holidays.
