Are you living in Mexico or planning a trip there in 2026? Keeping an eye on the official holiday calendar can make it much easier to plan work, travel, and long weekends.
Mexico’s Federal Labor Law sets out 7 standard mandatory rest days for 2026. Of those, 5 fall on weekdays, including the two Monday holidays linked to Constitution Day and Benito Juárez’s birthday.
Whether you live in Mexico or are just visiting, it is worth checking these dates in advance. On some of these days, offices, banks, schools, and smaller businesses may be closed or operate with reduced hours. Mexico’s holiday rules are based on mandatory rest days under Article 74 of the Federal Labor Law.

How many public holidays are observed in Mexico?
For a standard year like 2026, Mexico has 7 mandatory rest days under federal labor law. These are the dates most workers know as the country’s official public holidays.
The law also provides for 1 October every six years when there is a federal presidential handover, and for election days when federal or local electoral laws designate them as rest days. Those special cases do not add any extra nationwide holiday to the standard 2026 list above.
